ProEdge Prefabricated Expansion Joints

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

PRO-EDGE Joints are factory made expansion joints which are designed for placement over control and cold joints. Expansion joints are a necessity in ceramic tile, natural stone, and terazzo installations.

PRODUCT DESIGN:

PRO-EDGE joints are constructed in solid brass or solid aluminum with two perforated horizontal legs and near vertical protective arms, connected by a construction grade flexible sealant. PRO-EDGE joints are designed with upright protective arms at an 86 degree angle. The protective arms provide superior edge protection by channeling mechanical stresses away from the tile’s edge and moving it down into the substrate where it is absorbed. The perforated supporting base has large oversized holes to allow maximum penetration of setting material for maximum bonding of tile to substrate.

POLYURETHANE SEALANT:

The sealant is an architectural grade polyurethane sealant capable of dynamic joint movement plus or minus 25% of the original joint width. The sealant produces a watertight joint with superior elasticity, durability, and stress resistance. The polyurethane sealant meets or exceeds the requirements of TT-S-227E Class A, Type I; and conforms to ASTM C920 Standard Specification for Elastomeric Joint Sealants as Type M, Grade P, Class 25, Use T,A, and M; Canadian Specification CAN/CGSB-19.24-M90.

USAGE:

PRO-EDGE joints are designed for both horizontal (floor) and vertical (wall) applications. Place PRO-EDGE joints in accordance with the recommendations of the TCA Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation "Vertical and Horizontal Joint Design Essentials" (EJ171-2K).

JOINT COLORS:

PRO-EDGE joints are available in 25 sealant colors (see PRO-EDGE price list) and 7 finishes in aluminum. Finishes include: Silver ( stock) and Gold, Bright Silver, Bright Gold, Pewter, Bronze, and Black (all non-stock). All sealant colors are available in SOLID BRASS.

SIZES:

PRO-EDGE joints are available in four sizes in both finished aluminum and solid brass: 1/4" (6MM), 5/16" (8 MM), 3/8" (10 MM), AND 1/2" (12.5 MM). The height of the PRO-EDGE joint used equals the thickness of the tile used (use a 5/16" joint with a 5/16" tile no extra allowance is required).

INSTALLATION:

Trowel setting material along each side of the control joint in the sub-floor. Place and align the PRO-EDGE joint directly over the sub-floor control joint.

----SPECIAL NOTE----

Ensure that the expansion cavity at the base of the sealant remains free of setting material!

Press the perforated legs into the tile setting material, allowing the setting material to flow up through the circular openings. With a trowel, apply additional setting material over the supporting perforated legs. Leave up to a 1/8" spacing between the tile and the joint. Then firmly press the tile into the setting material. When properly installed, the top of the joint should be level with the surface of the tile. When grouting, the space between the tile and the joint should be filled in. Finally, clean all setting material and grout from show surface of sealant in the joint.
